Townsville City Council Wind Turbine
When Cyclone Yasi hit the North Queensland coast in 2011 one of its victims was a wind turbine located on the Strand – Townsville’s main beach area.
Tropical Energy Solutions was commissioned to conduct a feasibility study to assess available locations for a replacement wind turbine and to compare wind turbines based on cost and performance.
Following this review and negotiations with suppliers, Tropical Energy Solutions installed and commissioned a WIPO Winforce 10kW turbine with a grid connected inverter system at the Rowes Bay Interpretive Centre. It features a reliable gearless direct drive alternator and provides a valuable contribution to the Council depot’s local power consumption.
